Grasshopper offers multiple monthly plan subscriptions. All plans have common features such as unlimited calls to numbers in the USA and Canada, voicemail, etc. and vary by the phone numbers and extensions available. If required, businesses can subscribe to additional numbers.
A Dialpad Standard pack subscription is billed at $15 per user per month. Users can make and receive unlimited calls to certain global destinations from their Dialpad account. It also offers services such as call routing, call recording, Google Workspace & Microsoft 365 integrations, etc.
Dialpad Pro pack subscribers must pay $25 per user per month. This allows you to expand your network with local number support in 70+ countries. Other features include CRM integrations, 24/7 live support and ring groups.
At first glance, Dialpad plans look cheaper than Grasshopper plans.
Entrepreneurs can benefit from the Grasshopper Solo plan. For $28 per month, a Solo subscription gives entrepreneurs access to a range of services accessible through 3 extensions. Some of the key features of the Solo plan include virtual voicemail, call forwarding, reporting, incoming call controls and custom greetings.
Businesses that require more extensions need to upgrade to the Partner plan. This is inclusive of 3 phone numbers and 6 extensions.

Dialpad applications are available for Windows and MAC devices. Alternatively, you can use Dialpad services through a web interface or VoIP supported deskphone.

Like Dialpad, an app can be used by Grasshopper subscribers to make and receive calls. This can be installed and used on Android and iOS devices.
Inbound calls can be routed through Dialpad’s Interactive Voice Response system. These menus can be customized in 10 languages including English, Spanish and French. Based on the caller’s responses, calls can be directed to different ring groups. Standard plan subscribers can set up ring groups with 3 members while Pro plan subscribers can set up 10-member ring groups.
Unlike Dialpad, Grasshopper does not include IVR in any plan but an add-on Ruby receptionist service pack is available.
Businesses using Dialpad services can record custom greetings to strengthen their brand image. Messages can be recorded on the web portal or app.
1. Administrators can navigate to Call Handling and Voicemail from the Settings menu.
2. A new message can be recorded online or a recorded message can be uploaded.
You can set up a voicemail greeting through the OpenPhone desktop or mobile app.

Calls made through any Dialpad interface can be easily monitored for quality control and compliance. Supervisors can listen in to calls, whisper to agents without the other person’s knowledge, join a call or take it over. Calls can also be recorded and transcribed. Dialpad even transcribes voicemails for follow-ups.
Grasshopper misses out on the live call monitoring features offered by Dialpad but it does provide alternative solutions. To minimize missed calls, incoming calls can be forwarded to voicemail. Transcribed voicemail messages can then be accessed through email. This allows for quicker responses. Supervisors cannot join live calls on their own or take over calls from agents but agents can forward calls to supervisors if they are unable to solve a caller query on their own or require assistance of any kind. Grasshopper also provides reports on call metrics such as average call length, call type, etc.
Dialpad gives businesses the ability to record all incoming and outgoing calls made and received through smartphone/desktop applications. This feature can be automated or controlled manually to comply with privacy regulations.
Unlike Dialpad, none of the 3 Grasshopper plans include the ability to record calls.
Domestic calls and international calls to the USA and Canada are free. Other calls to international numbers are billed according to usage. For example, calls to Hong Kong at charged a $0.05 per minute rate while those to mobile numbers in Greenland are billed at a $0.79 per minute rate.
International calls are billed similarly for Dialpad and Grasshopper subscribers.
Apart from Hawaii and Alaska, calls to numbers in the USA and Canada are free for Grasshopper subscribers. Calls to other numbers are billed at per minute rates. For example, calls to mobile numbers in Spain with 346 as the country code are billed at 3¢ per minute.
Businesses can create a Dialpad account on the Dialpad website. They can apply for a new number or port their existing number. Once the account is created, you can start making and receiving calls via a chrome extension, smartphone/ desktop application or certain IP phones by Polycom, Obihai and Yealink. These deskphones are available on the Dialpad website.
Account creation is a similar process for Dialpad and Grasshopper.
When setting up a Grasshopper account, you can choose a new number or you can port an existing number. Next users can download the Grasshopper app to their smartphone/laptop/desktop and configure settings according to the assigned roles. Grasshopper services are also accessible through certain desk phones. These will need to be set up with the customer service representative by activating the call card feature.
